Subway (1985)

Fred, a raffish safe blower, takes refuge in the Paris Metro after being chased by the henchmen of a shady businessman from whom he has just stolen some documents. Excellent fast-paced 80s action. Spoiled by the dubbing. Better to watch the French Version on subtitles. Diva and La Balance were better though.

I love its elegant refusal to be serious. A safecracker who cares more for a photo and forming a band than for valuable documents or money! It looks great too, as you'd expect from the 'cinema du look'.

Takes a bit of time to get into (tip watch the subtitle version) but very well acted and you feel drawn to the characters.

Oh, how I love this film! Luc Besson: all surface and style. Eric Serra's soundtrack is one of the best parts.
