Soul Man (1986)

A white prospective grad student's affluent family won't pay his way through law school, so he takes tanning pills to darken his skin in order to qualify for an African-American scholarship at Harvard. At best, Soul Man is a passable time waster. At worst, its an unfunny comedy. James Earl Jones is still a cool S.O.B. though but Leslie Nielsen is horribly underused. And C.Thomas Howell?? He's bloody great!! I'm joking on that last part.......

This movie was not as bad as I heard people saying, but the plot was kinda like what? suntanning pills? The pople in this movie must have been stupid to think that he looked like a black guy. It could have been better, but it could have also been a lot worse then it was.

Not very funny and the plot is very predicatble. The racial aspect didn't bother me as Eddie Murphy used to play white guys all the time. Still, those complaining about 'blackface' should sit down and watch White Chicks. It works both ways and just as cringeworthy. Natch.
