A stunning on-screen realization Robert E. Howard's "dour and deadly puritan." It's the best sword and sorcery I've seen in a long time, and the bonus is that it's in a very convincingly depicted historical setting. Beautifully filmed, written, and acted, it also has a pervasive Gothic sense of brooding decay that's supplied by the simplest of touches (e.g., omnipresent flying ash, priests who've gone mad or gone over to Satan, etc.). Though the plot doesn't follow any of the Kane stories I've read yet, I have a feeling they were trying to provide backstory for a character whose motivation for his constant battle against evil was never revealed. It never needed explanation, but the movie is so good that it just adds to the canon, IMO.. It's on Netflix streaming, and I highly recommend it to anyone with even a passing interest in sword and sorcery. Five stars.

If you haven't seen this yet you Fucking Need to! Did a great job on this adaptation from the Graphic Novel! you definitely need to check it out especially if your into Dark Fantasy Films!

A simply fantastic movie in every way. A perfect swashbuckling blockbuster with a great hypnotic performance by James Purefoy. How it took over three years for this film to reach the States is beyond me and even more why is anybody please doing a sequel My kids and wife love this film too. A great piece of entertainment. I would like to Solomon Kane now journey into Africa into one of his many adventures. Come on Hollywood, wake up and pick it up.

Opening with a majestic battle and introducing Solomon as a viscious manslayer, this movie gets your attention! The cinematography is pretty amazing; great costumes, settings, sceneries, made to be authentic language which can be bothering for some and a special story of a damned soul.The doubt between evil and good, the devil or God is heavily dealt with in the first half of the movie, his journey and adventure of beasts and magic leads him even further, eventually upholding the good (ofcourse). But there was doubt! There's a good expansion on the story itself, even later on a staggering revealence for him. This epic tale comes close to the feeling LOTR could give you, only here we have a seemingly invinsible savior and hero, yet it still fits, he gets strength from that and his damnation. Throughout the movie we get actionscene after the other with great fights, surely James Purefoy is the better choice! I might say this movie is as good as Van Helsing, better in certain ways!

One of the best fantasy movies ever made, and it won't be coming to theaters in the US. It was only released overseas for some strange reason. Stupid US distributors. I bought a copy off ebay. I highly recommend fans of fantasy (LotR, Conan, etc) buy this asap, especially since you'll never get to see it in a theater.
