As a result of a misdiagnosis, Detective Burt Simpson is told he has just weeks to live. He gains a new respect for his life and loved ones but learns that in order for his wife, Carolyn, and son, Dougie, to collect any insurance money, he must be killed in the line of duty. He then becomes the most reckless man on the police force, volunteering for dangerous assignments over the objections of his by-the-book partner.

A cop a few days away from retirement, finds out that he has only a few days to live and that his insurance policy only pays out if he dies in the line of duty...so he goes all Mel Gibson trying to die in a blaze of glory. Hilarity ensues.

This movie is definitely one of the most underrated movies that I've ever seen. Not really a popular movie but the story is just great. Full of twisted dark humor. There's also a sick chase scene during a time when car chase scenes were apart of almost every movie. Cop movies may not be your thing but this one will definitely bring out a few laughs.

63/100. Dabney Coleman has always had a gift for comedy, and he is terrific in Short Time. It is a very enjoyable and entertaining movie, nothing too deep, but the premise is funny, it's well cast and combines comedy and action very well. The car chase scene with Coleman is hilarious. Nicely done, light and fun.
