This film simply does not age. Keaton is the one bona fide genius of film comedy.

Nothing is better than a Buster Keaton short, and this might be his best. He's among the first to direct a film that calls attention to itself as a film. But also this is hilarious, filled with the usual Buster stunts and gags. Proof that you can be artful and entertaining at the same time.

On the weekend where Steve Martin once again rapes the corpse of the Pink Panther, I think we should look back and remember what real physical comedy looks. In Sherlock Jr, Keaton puts every fiber of his being into making the film funny. What people take for granted is how difficult and dangerous all of Keaton's stunts were. His dedication to the art of comedy is pretty much unmatched.
