Buoyed by Chopin, Schubert, Schumann, and more, Seymour: An Introduction is lyrical without getting fancy, its director plainly rapt.

A thoughtful, engaging look not only at an interesting individual, but also at his views of what constitutes his art (specifically the art of music). Through intriguing conversations with the protagonist and his familiars, the film takes viewers on an exploration of elements of its subject that, at first glance, might seem unrelated but that are ultimately integral to its truest understanding. An interesting, unexpected offering from Ethan Hawke in one of his rare directorial turns.

Fabulous movie. What a great view into a true artist's life. It has always been extremely fascinating to me to understand what an artist has to go through to make it where they are. This is a great vision of how much goes into being classical pianists, as well as how they view life in general.

Terrific documentary and great insight into the work of Seymour Bernstein. Wonderful music throughout. Loved the interviews with his students.
