A very understated little Australian film about two young boys, one black, one white, and the realities of their friendship back in 1968 in WA. Worth seeing, bit of a sleeper.

What a find. A period piece set in rural Western Australia in the late sixties. I was drawn in completely and deeply moved by the simplicity of the story. Yet it shows difficulties faced in a long period for Australia, that hasn't ended. How did I miss this at the cinemas?

Coming of age movie about the friendship between two boys on a wheat farm in Western Australia. One boy is the son of european farmer the other the son of a the aboriginal worker on the farm. Film explores the external pressures on the boys friendship. One of them the political pressure caused by a law change that means aboriginal workers must be paid the same as white workers and one caused by a girl of the same age who befriends the white boy. Great cinematography. Lots of limited depth shots panning to the golden field and bright sun and sky.

An interesting portrayal of outback life, with a very realistic representation of the interactions on a farm, and great cinematography.
