After a suicide attempt, Lane has moved into her country house to recuperate. Her best friend, Stephanie, has come to join her for the summer. Lane's mother, Diane, has recently arrived with her husband Lloyd, Lane's stepfather. Lane is close to two neighbors: Peter, and Howard. Howard is in love with Lane, Lane is in love with Peter, and Peter is in love with Stephanie.

I like Woody Allen's movies. They have that something that makes them different to any other movie. And that special element is what makes them good no matter what. I didn't enjoy this one as much as others. Stephanie and Peter are the most hateble characters I've seen lately. Every time they appeared on screen they made me want to stop seeing the film. They totally ruined this movie for me. On the other hand, Lane's misery is excellently shown. Mia Farrow does a great job there, she can totally make you feel her depression.

Du Allen à la sauce Bergman, sans la puissance poétique de ce dernier. Beaucoup de dialogues ennuyeux et peu de profondeur dans le développement des personnages. On nage dans un sentiment de généralité du début à la fin ou à peu près. Une ou deux scènes fortes, mais l'ensemble est plutôt fastidieux.

This movie reveals the diversity of W Allen as a director. It is fun to watch without being a funny movie and both Mia Farrow & Dianne West give a very good performance.

An unsung Woody classic! I've seen about two dozen Woody Allen movies, and I have to say this is one of my favorites. I think one review called it Chekhovian, and that's exactly what it is. The story feels desperate, but the drama is so tight and controlled you can't help but watch the plunge. Elaine Stritch is brilliant -- casting her was genius.
