Rover Dangerfield (1991)

Rover, a street-smart dog owned by a Las Vegas showgirl is dumped off Hoover Dam by the showgirl's boyfriend. Rather than drowning, Rover winds up in your basic idyllic farm in a classic city-boy-in-country shtick.

I heard that Rodney Dangerfield concocted this movie idea in the early 80's as a tax write off. I'm not sure if this film is considered a labor of love or an animated attempt at an ego stroke but "Rover Dangerfield" is a disasterous production from the sense of an animated standpoint. It's a strange movie if you consider how the story is and the awkwardness of the musical numbers. The animation seems more finished in some sequences than others and really becomes obvious in the timing of the voice work. The highlight is Rover himself whose body language completely matches Rodney. Unfortunately this film can't overcome its shoddy production value for adults and would be limited to children that maybe like things like "Babe".

Rover Dangerfield is both boring and not that funny. The thing's I liked was Rodney Dangerfield's acting in the movie and the animation is good, and it did have a couple funny scene's. Also, the film is about a dog who end's up being ditched by his owner's boyfreind, Rocky, due to rover messing up a deal between rocky and the mafia. Seriously, why would Rodney Dangerfield write a movie about this? Kid's will probably like it, but adult's or Rodney Dangerfield fans won't find anything good in this movie. 1/5

Highly underrated. I'd give anything for a new LCD player just so I can watch this again.

A wonderful animated film for children and adults alike. The story line is there, just unfortunately it feels like the script could have gone through a few more drafts before the film was completed.
