Rocket Science (2007)

Hal is a 15-year-old high-school student with a minor yet socially alienating (and painful) disability: he stutters uncontrollably. Determined to work through the problem, Hal opts for an extreme route – he joins the school debating team, which sends him on a headfirst plunge into breakneck speech competitions and offers a much-needed boost toward correcting the problem.

I loved it! I guess it's because I can relate to the main character well. I remember what it was like to have no voice of your own. The days where there are countless thoughts in my head but I had no means to convey them. Not to mention the whole love thing... it's cute, but sometimes with profound love comes with profound puzzle and obstacle that one cannot cross. I enjoyed the movie for it's simplicity, candidness, and its thought-provoking plot. It's refreshing to watch such a movie when all others focus on graphics and things that are unrealistic.

I suspect a lot of high school students will recognize elements of real life in the movie, and that the movie will build a following. It may gross as little as "Welcome to the Dollhouse" or as much as "Clueless," but whichever it does, it's in the same league.

Once again, Juno, eat your fucking heart out. This movie is stunning with an amazing story and a very strong cast to boot.

This was a great movie! I loved the character of Hal. I wanted so badly to be his friend. Reece Thompson is an amazing actor!

I literally expected nothing out of this, so I was pleasantly surprised. Those with social anxiety or similar problems will enjoy it!
