The movie definately grew on me as it played out. The lead, Greta Gerwig, slowly wins you over. There are no big events in the movie, only life's little moments. And because of this, I found myself enjoying it from start to finish.

Wish we could have seen more of our protag's creative / professional life! Can't believe we got to the end of the film with intimate knowledge of all of her boyfriends but little understanding of what she actually did for a job every day. Mumble core as always too raw too real too narrow focused.

I liked this movie a lot, and have a lot to say about it, and maybe if I ever get the urge to write a proper review again I will say it. I will say, however, that it's not nearly as pretentious as the filmmakers would like you to believe (the summary calls it "a new idiom for life as a 20-something," whatever that means...). I'd put it up there with Annie Hall and High Fidelity as far as romantic comedies go. (Speaking of Allen, he pioneered this film's motifs in "Husbands and Wives," and has been copied many times since then, so don't get too excited about your new idioms, guys...also I refuse to call this "mumblecore." wtf, seriously.) Really a delightful film, anchored by Greta Gerwig's impeccable performance. Also, props for, like, a two minute shot with a penis onscreen. Seriously.

So much of mumblecore is in caring about the characters, which I couldn't really with this one.

No one involved seems to have any thoughts about why people are selfish and cruel to each other, but they're more than willing to complain about it.
