This is my favorite of Peckinpah's Westerns. Yes, even up against his brilliant THE WILD BUNCH (which I love, too!).

An outstanding film and Peckinpah's first masterpiece.

My favourite Sam Peckinpah movie; his sentimental side is seldom mentioned and the guy loved last hurrahs and gives one to Joel McCrea and Randolph Scott who portray down-on-their-luck ex-lawmen escorting a shipment of gold in the early 20th Century American West.

Freakin' awesome... One of Peckinpah's finest works, though perhaps one of his most under-rated (or overshadowed). A harrowing tale of the test of true friendship, and of the struggle for truth in oneself. A little slow moving to begin with, but that is just because the stage is being laid out. I'm thinking this may have been Randolph Scott's final film, and it shows in how he plays out the final moments of the film. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to see a well-woven story. Everything ties in to something else, somehow.

A great western starring Randolph Scott and Joel McCrea, who are two older lawmen transporting gold from the mine to the bank. With James Drury, Warren Oates, John Anderson, and the first movie for Mariette Hartley. A truly great musical score composed by George Bassman. Memorable and inspiring. One of the best showdowns, with classic dialogue, at the end. This is regarded as the first great film of director Sam Peckinpaugh. This is the last screen appearance of Randolph Scott, and he surely went out as a champion.
