Renoir (2012)

In the French Riviera in the summer of 1915, Jean Renoir, son of the Impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste, returns home to convalesce after being wounded in World War I. At his side is Andrée, a young woman who rejuvenates, enchants, and inspires both father and son.

Unfortunately, for all the beauty, director Gilles Bourdos goes no further than simply observing surfaces.

Story of Renoir's last muse and how she changed the lives of the painter & his son. Set in the lush countryside of southern France, the film makes you appreciate the impressionist pieces of Renoir that much more (as well as draw out his fascination with Titian, esp. the Courtesans). American audience may not get it but its not like a typical French film --exploring the highs and the lows of human emotions, ever so delicately, complimenting it with beautiful scenes of the French countryside. Very well done. Just wish the translation were better and i didn't have to rely on what remains of my college French.

Lenta y contemplativa. "Renoir" nos cuenta los ultimos dias de la vida del pintor y la juventud de su segundo hijo, el director de cine. Dificil que Francia quede nominada al Oscar por esta pelicula (su representante oficial), ya que si no lo logro con "Amigos" de 2012, que tenia todo para hacerlo, esta no tiene el nivel a pesar de estar bien fotografiada y actuada, simplemente no te dan ganas de volverla a ver. (Texto intencionalmente sin acentos).
