Violent and sexy, balanced between hope and despair, definably too-much and unapologetically mythic. The road is bumpy, but what a trip.

Greatt casting and acting marred by an unrealistic story. People from my culture are extremely unlikely to stop to ride horseback while on the lamb!. Even the Texans I know thought that was weak.And don't talk to me about symbolism.. it's not Shakespeare. We don't hang out of cars cruising down the highway, either. Also found it unlikely the kid would shoot a Black cop given the circumstances and lack of provocation. Still, I loved the acting!. They could have done so much more with this movie.

A less muddled, less self-conscious Queen & Slim could have been an indelible waking dream. Instead, it's hit-and-miss. But Waithe and Matsoukas are on to something, and it's the undercurrents rather than the filmmakers' more obvious exertions that hit the mark.

While writers Lena Waithe and James Frey make Queen and Slim’s initial decision to flee convincing, and dramatically spiky – it’s striking that even a lawyer doesn’t fancy her chances on the legal route – their screenplay is rather less good at coming up with excuses for the string of colourful and picturesque pit-stops the two keep making afterwards.
