Some lazy asshat involved with the production of the DVD I saw didn't feel it necessary to subtitle the songs. Even missing what seemed like half of the film's dialogue I still give it 5 stars because it's that good.

It reminds me Italian's Neo-realism. It reflects the living poor in India at the 50s and the dark side of the culture and society.

beyond the disgusting stereotypes...and its inability to hold you...there's some of the best literature...ahead of its times direction...and soulful packaging.. not necessarily a dreary watch...infact way better than you'd expect

Goes too far in the direction of Christ story in the last 45 minutes to be completely successful, although its first 90 minutes offer many moments that are quite lovely.
