Decided I would revisit this after watching Zazie Dans Le Metro last night (pure madness!) and recently having many of Malle's films top my favorites, notably Elevator to the Gallows. Pretty Baby is a good film but not on par with Malle's French pictures. It's a nice peak into turn of the 1917 New Orleans. All the actors give great performances. I love Antonio Fargas.

Ruthlessly vague and morally ambiguous. Also, not a lot happens. But whatever, it was well done and that's something at least. The subject matter and 12-year-old nudity actually demand that the film be well-done at the very least.

Louis Malle's Pretty Baby is a pleasant surprise: After all the controversy and scandal surrounding its production, it turns out to be a good-hearted, good-looking, quietly elegiac movie.

How do you make a tasteful movie about a 12 year old girl growing up in a whorehouse and becoming a young whore herself? You get the director who managed to make a tasteful movie about a teenage boy who has sex with his own mother. Though it's not quite as successful as the latter film, this one's still quite great.

I didn't like the end of the movie. I think she was better off with her husband!
