Beautifully creepy... The story is well-written and the acting top-notch. It scares without gore.

I love this movie! This has got to be one of the more amazing arthouse movies of all time. This is a British gem that you simply must seek out. It is visually stunning and highly imaginative. I think that Neil Gaiman's recent movie, Mirrormask, owes a lot to the sinister recesses of a child's mind that are explored in this movie.

The idea of a girl manipulating a dream world with her drawings and also connecting with and affecting the life of a boy she's never actually met, is truly fascinating. The drawing stuff sounds nice enough-- but frankly there's something really menacing about it. The dreamworld is eerily surreal -- the house, for instance, is just a Grey block in the middle of a desolate field. The folks who made the movie did a great job of making the alternate world/ongoing dream. Every aspect of Paperhouse is fresh and beautiful. A film for all ages.

Self serious and heavy handed, but still a well made dark fantasy of a young girl working through her fears in a surreal dream world. Stylishly direction and photography are what make the film worth watching, but it's all a rather cold and sterile exercise.
