Danika (2006)

Traumatized since childhood by her brother's accidental death, Danika Merrick hallucinates a bank robbery and quits her job. Despite support from her three children and loving husband, Danika continues to experience unnerving visions. She seeks help from therapist Evelyn Harris but pervasive reports of violent incidents involving children make Danika fear for her own family, and she grows increasingly paranoid, worrying she may be going insane.

This had a great setup - Tomei was fantastic - but with such an amazing build-up, you really want the film to end with a bang but it falls flat. There's so much amazing story going on in the characters' lives that you become drawn in, but then the plot gets in the way.

I didn't mind the way this was put together, now if only I could wrap my head around the whole thing. Confusing doesn't even begin to describe this movie. I think I may have to sit through it again to answer some of my questions, but I don't know if I'm prepared to do so. I'd avoid this, to be honest.

really really odd...but hey, it gave me paranoia for about a week. so i guess it lived out it's purpose.

One of those psychological thrillers that spends its entire running time trying to mess with the viewer's mind... but instead ends up making little sense and becoming unsatisfying. The twist ending seems tacked on and doesn't really explain much of the preceding events, causing the film to lack focus and coherence since not all the plot threads are tied together. However, on the positive side, Marisa Tomei gives a terrific performance as the mother losing who grip on reality, and fans of her should definitely check this film out if only to see her terrific display of acting skills. All in all, it tries very hard to be a mind-bending psycho thriller, but instead just ends up being a jumbled mess.
