i can't give this film a high enough rating. Gena Rowlands and Cassavetes were like electric cinema gods.

Beautiful. So fucking beautiful. Cassavetes always underestimated himself, his roles showed that and he never knew just how many people really loved him.

Gena Rowlands is the great reason for this movie. If not, only a 2.5 star one.

How do you pick up the pieces of your shattered life? How do you kill the demons that haunt you? How can you simultaneously go through Hell and still pretend like nothing happened? Watching this movie was an experience that can never be duplicated. Cassavetes does something to your experience, and that is through his ability to create life on screen. There is no plot, only characters. Myrtle (Gena Rowlands) is the star, and yet her tragedy is her inability to face reality. She tries to find all the answers at the bottom of a bottle, but ignores the bigger problem: Actually living. A heartbreaking and funny movie that captivated me the whole way through.

A god damn wonderful film about getting old and how age is not a factor. Touching and dark with stellar performances all around. Love Cassavetes.
