Half-caste bandit Omkara Shukla abducts his lady love, Dolly Mishra, from her family. Thanks to his cleverness, he gets away with the kidnapping. A conspiracy, however, forms against him when he denies his right-hand man, Langda Tyagi, a promotion. Ultimately, this plot threatens not only his relationship with Dolly, but their lives and those of their associates as well.

Based on the Shakespearean tragedy ?Othello?, the film speaks volumes of the director?s craft. At no point of time does the audience feel that the story is an adaptation from a period and culture far removed. Gulzar?s lyrics with an authentic ethnic flavor, backed by premium quality sound track, are arguably his best work yet. A very strong performance by Saif Ali Khan, free of overly exaggerated histrionics (typical for Indian cinema), is an added attraction.

One of the BEST movies I have ever seen. Saif Ali Khan's acting, cinematography, soundtrack, and authenticity are the best features of this adaptation of Shakespeare's Othello.

Shakespeare's story needs no praise. Vishal Bhardwaj adapted it in a great manner and was well supported by the star cast.

One of the best directed films. The script inspired from Othello, but the director successfully gave a new feel to it...

Outstanding modern adaptation of Othello -- excellent performances, music. Even better than Maqbool/Macbeth. Very strong language, not for young audiences.
