Navy Lt. Tom Farrell meets a young woman, Susan Atwell , and they share a passionate fling. Farrell then finds out that his superior, Defense Secretary David Brice, is also romantically involved with Atwell. When the young woman turns up dead, Farrell is put in charge of the murder investigation. He begins to uncover shocking clues about the case, but when details of his encounter with Susan surface, he becomes a suspect as well.

Good performances from a strong cast and paranoid plotting enough to keep even the staunchest of remake nay-sayers quiet. Hitchockian production with a modern twist.

I don't know if I saw this film before tonight (on tv) - it is a pretty good thriller starring a young Kevin Costner and a seedy Gene Hackman along with a doomed but appealing Sean Young. Hackman is an unfaithful husband keeping a young woman (Young) as his plaything and she becomes involved with a rising officer (Costner). Costner's officer is attached to Hackman and then becomes embroiled in an affair as the "backdoor" man to Hackman's mistress. She is killed when the jealous politician pushes her off a a high stairway, having confronted her about a suspected lover, then an aide helps the politician cover up the death. Costner discovers the cover-up and the race is on, Costner to get to the truth, while the aide and his lackeys attempt to deal with any loose ends. 10/10

This one has alot of twists in it....overall it was a good movie

One of Costner's earliest leading roles and still one of his best. A spy thriller with a love triangle that leads to murder that leads to a government witch hunt that ends with one of the biggest twists in movie history. Gene Hackman, Will Patton and Sean Young complete a strong acting quartet but Costner is the star and deservedly so.

This was the first Kevin Costner movie I ever saw and I had a big crush on him because of this movie. Unfortunately, it is the best movie he has done and, as far as I am concerned, he went downhill from there.
