Nil by Mouth (1997)

The family of Raymond, his wife Val and her brother Billy live in working-class London district. Also in their family is Val and Billy's mother Janet and grandmother Kath. Billy is a drug addict and Raymond kicks him out of the house, making him live on his own. Raymond is generally a rough and even violent person, and that leads to problems in the life of the family.

this is as real and gritty as it gets. this will make you cry. kathy burkes performance was worthy of not just one oscar but every oscar ever made. ray winston also puts in a strong performance.

Brilliant drama about how the obsession of drugs, alcohol and violence can send a devastating ripple effect through family and friends lives. Ray Winstone at his most dangerous and very best and Kathy Burke on the receiving end. Superb!!!

Stars Kathy Burke and Ray Winstone in a depressing tale from the underbelly of the working class England. Portrays the lives of an utterly disfunctional family whose members abuse each other both verbally and physically and struggle to survive an existance involving crime, drugs, unemployment, welfare and grim tenement block accomodation. Gary Oldman, an actor few can rival, here shows his equal talent for directing. Extremely hard to watch but totally mesmerising.

1 thing, kathy burke was the co-writer aswel, thought everyone should know. awesome film, not alot of films shock me but this one defintly did. worth watching from start to finish. awesome.
