John Cummings, an unsuccessful London cosmetics salesman, has his unpaid-for car stolen by a hood in the employ of Lionel Meadows, sadistic organiser of a car conversion racket. As the vehicle is uninsured, and since the police seem indifferent, Cummings decides to find it himself — and gets himself involved in an underworld battle.

Richard Todd transforms from a meek and failing perfume salesman into a revenge driven obsessive citizen deputy as he chases after thieves that have stolen his car. Peter Sellers is tremendous in his villainous role. I quite enjoyed the soundtrack in this one as well. It is best left to limited detail as I urge you to check it out. If you like film noir you will not fail to enjoy it.

A gritty violent crime drama staring the strange but 'straight in this' Peter Sellers. This film started strong but slowly but surely became and little too unrealistic & characters where behaving in ways that didn't make sense. It has a horrible score that doesn't really the film forward either...had the potential to be a great story & a great film but it fell a bit short

Peter Sellers delivers a tour-de-force performance in this superb British film noir from director John Guillerman. The film works so well due to the intense characterizations of Sellers and Richard Todd. Controversail and gritty on it's original release, it's now really good old fashioned B Picture to watch on a wet Sunday afternoon!
