My Favorite Film Of All Time Is 1941's Citizen Kane.

Like observing an ancient insect trapped in amber; it's a gleaming jewel from the distant past. Those of us who read Benchley and Broun and Parker as youngsters will be amazed at the way Rudolph has edited his film. The bons mots come at us as if shot from a machine gun.

Love the story of Dorothy Parker but Jennifer sucked so bad that it was slightly excrutiating every time she opened her mouth.

Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle is an interesting movie that just falls short of being brilliant. Jennifer Jason Leigh shines in this movie, though her voice is a bit difficult to understand at times. Telling the story of Dorothy Parker, the film really illuminates the depression behind the caustic wit of her writing. There were intriguing times and a shocking moment when she makes her first attempt at committing suicide. Constantly falling in love with married men and experiencing trials that fuel her writing, the story ends abruptly and incompletely. It was a good attempt and near splendid. Lots of witty banter and intelligent discussions are what keep this movie going, carried by Leigh's stunning performance.

People have forgotten how awesome Jennifer Jason Leigh is. At first you might be put off by the affected voice she uses to portray Dorothy Parker, but alongside Alan Rudolph's engaging and freewheeling direction, it rubs off on you and sure enough you can't think of anyone else who could essay the role with as much heart and verve as she could. A great even-handed portrait of a certain time in American writing and a particular group of learned partygoers. Even puffy-face Andrew McCarthy can't ruin this delight.
