one of the first films i saw in school. these actors make a kitchen seem like the most exciting place in the world. still love it.

I love this movie. And the fact that they're remaking it soon makes me want to THROW UP. See the original. Without the background of a bleak, romance-less, joy-less, Germany, the movie losses the very core of its story. Martha is intriguing as a perfectionist chef who won't eat her own food, it looks so good after she's plated it. Her life is thrown off its beaten track when her sister dies and she finds herself the sole caregiver for her younge neice. Adding to her headache is the replacement sous chef at her restaurant, an Italian man who's all grin and song where Martha is grimace and silence. The movie is beautiful in its simplicity and rich in its exploration of family, food and what it takes to really enjoy life.

i fell in love with this movie. delectable food, actors, and story. so lovely.
