Action sequences are choreographed and edited with a degree of tight conceptual and spatial coherency that puts nearly any Marvel movie to shame, whether close-quarters scuffles or epic woman-on-kaiju confrontations.

More like monster avoider. Haven't played the game so no expectations on that count. Production-wise very good. Monsters, especially the insectoid ones, are horrifyingly excellent. The actual big bad is the weakest really. Not great acting as such, and the support is underused. They looked interesting bar Ron Perlman, who should be retired by now from these sorts of roles. Not bad. Looks Like there will be sequels.

Honestly in my opinion this movie was so bad that it's good. Basically nothing besides the monster designs were accurate to the games, the plot was incredibly stupid especially for an action movie, the acting was alright but the editing was very bad, but by far the worst of all this movies problems is that the god damn ending WAS JUST POINTLESS SEQUEL BAIT (Same thing for the unnecessary post credits scene btw). But I honestly don't care how many problems this movie has, there's just something about it that makes me not hate it for some reason. It's honestly one of those movies that you have to watch to understand why I say that it's so bad that it's good.

There’s a couple badass heroes with humongous swords, a few big scaly monstrosities, and frequently not much else. The minimalism is consistent with Anderson’s career-long devotion to delivering caloric content with an unlikely combo of classical unities and pounding, insta-dated electronic beats. The movie’s called Monster Hunter—what more could it reasonably need?
