Mondo New York (1988)

A young woman wanders around New York City and stumbles across a number of strange characters and settings that represent the "underground" areas of the city. She sees stand up comedy in Central Park, a prostitution auction, a voodoo ceremony, an S&M club, and a number of very interesting performance artists. These are just a few of the sights and sounds of New York that she encounters.

This film follows a teenage girl as she makes her way around new york city in the late eighties. she ends up in very bizzare places such as a voodoo ritual where the heads are being bitten off of chickens, a prostitute sale, and an anit-yuppie speach which includes the speach giver to get naked and pour smashed up easter eggs on herself, then decorates her breasts with confetti as she screams about the yuppies on avenue A. This film shows things you will never believe, and what makes it all so bizzare, is that everything is real. unfortinatly, this film is very hard to come by and is extremly rare, but if you find a copy, you should deffinatly watch it.

Ann Magnuson, got up like a Dutch milkmaid, beats something that resembles a dead horse. If there is a theme here, it is camp rebellion.

My favorite movie is Mondo New York; it's not for everyone, but it was one of my motivators for going to New York in the late eighties. Features some great performers, such as: Phoebe Legere, Joey Arias, Joe Coleman, Ann Magnuson, Annie Sprinkle, and Dean Johnson.
