Minesweeper (1943)

A naval officer who had deserted several years earlier is drawn back to the Navy when World War II begins. He re-enlists under an assumed name, and is assigned to a minesweeper, where he has to perform hazardous duties while at the same time keeping his real identity a secret.

Light World War II film, drama and comedy are mixed effectively. Richard Arlen is fine in the lead role. Short and to the point. Dec ent story. Pretty routine but good.

A disgraced naval officer returns to service as a lowly minesweeper after Pearl Harbor. This is the typical film promoting the adventurorus life of even a lowly sea man at war, even giving value to the death of such man as heroic. But while it lacks a lot of realism and it is outdated, but it comes with a welcome naïve air of nostalgic romanticism that is usually present in these quasi-propaganda films which were produced towards the end of the Second World War.
