Terrific picture. This would make a perfect companion to Mean Streets. Cassavetes and Falk both give very good performances, and the dialogue is priceless.

This little-known flick is often described as a crime thriller, but it's really the best reflection on the intracacies of friendship that I've seen in a movie.

A neglected 1976 gem from a neglected Hollywood genius. May was known for her comedy but here proves absolutely fluent in the language of mobster lowlife, with an edge of caustic, disillusioned humour, and strange yet shockingly real outbursts of violence in which cafe owners and bus drivers are suddenly roughed up.

May’s judgment on manhood is harsh: it entails renunciation, submission, humiliation, and the willingness to betray and to break the relationships forged in the heat of male bonding. Or, to be a man, one must stop being one of the guys.

a black comedy w/o jokes, and like a Cassavettes movie w/o excess, every action goes the real way not the movie way; it hurts
