Its strongest assets, aside from a performance by Ms. Watson that pierces through the nonsense, are Mark Knopfler's fine, expressive score and the attractiveness of its star.

Between the two Murphys, "Metro" is no waste of time. But it's no life-enhancing experience either -- unless you're into trolley-hopping, perp-snuffing and vows of vengeance. "The Nutty Professor" proved Eddie Murphy still has it, 10 times over.

Jake Hamilton 20 Jan 2006

Well below anything else Eddie did before it. Needs a tighter script and a more confident performance.

Peter Stack 31 Mar 2012

A sexy, moody comedy that plays like a dreamy comic novel.

Jay Carr 24 Dec 1997

It never aspires to be high art—even the title is meaningless—but Metro is too lazily assembled, and too stingy with the jokes, to even live up to its modest ambitions.
