This is such a perfect little movie. The hero is unassumingly and adorably played by Ernest Borgnine, and the story is short and sweet without being rushed or syrupy.

Ernest Borgnine absolutely earned this Oscar with his subtle & realistic portrayal as a honest & hardworking butcher trying to make it through life & love in the Bronx. Marty is such a real character he could be anyone.

Paddy Chayefsky, I want to have your babies.

What do you want to do? I don't know. What do you want to do? See Marty.

My love for this movie never diminishes. Ernest Borgnine (who I had only seen has hard-nosed characters growing up) is a true revelation in this film. You feel his loneliness, unhappiness and despair; he truly deserved his Oscar. The characters are real people, and anyone could relate to them and the sadness in their lives. Of course, the whole film is perfect and I find it is not dated at all. It could be done today without much change to the story. We certainly see the sweeter side of Paddy Chayefsky here!
