Marty (1955)

Marty, a butcher who lives in the Bronx with his mother is unmarried at 34. Good-natured but socially awkward he faces constant badgering from family and friends to get married but has reluctantly resigned himself to bachelorhood. Marty meets Clara, an unattractive school teacher, realising their emotional connection, he promises to call but family and friends try to convince him not to.

Almost none of my friends have seen this, but it's still my all-time favorite movie. So understated, so simple, yet so perfect. Check it out if you can find it.

This is a great movie for anyone who has ever felt alone. I love it. It is a wonderful tale of two people who are so alone and getting older. Not to mention living at home. These characters make you feel like you are rooting for them. You really want to see them get together in the end and to be happy. There are many twists and turns that make you wonder; Is true love really out there waiting for me?

A wonderful romantic drama that won the Academy Award for Best Picture of 1955 and Best Actor to Ernest Borgnine in the title role. A heartfelt triumph. One of the best movies of the 1950s and among the most touching movies I've ever seen. It's like a movie that touches your soul. Brilliant movie!
