Mark of the Vampire (1935)

Sir Borotyn, a prominent Prague resident, is discovered murdered in his home, with all indications pointing to a vampire assault. The victim's friend, Baron Otto, and the physician who analyzes the body, are certain that the vampire is the mysterious Count Mora or his daughter. Receiving little help from the law, Professor Zelen, an expert in the occult, is called in to assist with their investigation.

Well made filming for the time, but the plot was a little cheesy, the motivations contrived and it was oddly short. The plot twist undermined all the build up and made you feel like it was wrapped up quickly.

Great cinematography, great set design, great Bela, lousy ending (although I did sort of appreciate its out-of-left-field abruptness). Despite all that, I found myself struggling not to doze off in a number places, probably more a reflection of my state of mind going in than of the film itself.

Ultimately disappointing vampire story, whose only saving grace is Carol Borland, who really spooked me in her role as the female vampire.

Very average vampire movie, the plot was slow-moving and not interesting. I much prefer "Dracula" over this.
