Marie Heurtin is a girl who born blind and deaf, she is unable to communicate with the people. She cannot connect to the world around her, by the age of 14 her exasperated parents (Gilles Triton and Laure Duthilleul) decided to bring Marie to Larnay institute. Which is a school for deaf girls run by nuns, but the mother (Brigitte Carillon) did not accepts Marie in the school. Because they have never taught a girl who is deaf and blind. Sister Marguerite (Isabelle Carre) made a big diction, which is bring Marie to the school.

Though based on a remarkable true story, this clichéd tear-jerker is barely interested in Marguerite’s revolutionary teaching methods, focusing instead on the intensity of her connection to Marie.

Kenneth R. Morefield 05 May 2015

Marie and Marguerite's relationship is interesting, but it's the film's religious setting that elevates it beyond melodrama.

Sheri Linden 27 May 2015

At its most provocative, it suggests a tension between spirit and flesh in the nun's maternal feelings. Rather than examine that friction, Améris pushes the narrative in predictable directions.

Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat 22 Apr 2015

A remarkable spiritual drama about compassion, loving, and creative caregiving.
