Marcel is an adorable one-inch-tall shell who ekes out a colorful existence with his grandmother Connie and their pet lint, Alan. The self-reflexiveness of the entire enterprise only breaks the spell that Slate and Camp work hard to maintain — one which Rossellini effortlessly keeps intact with intelligence, beautifully controlled phrasing and a soft, melodious warmth that feels like a tender caress.

I will keep this short and sweet much like the title character, Marcel. I loved this charming adorable little shell and the documentary like tale laid out in the movie. To give away anything of this movie other than the words adorable is taking away from the experience of letting the movie unfold to it's final conclusion.

It never hurts to remember how a simple story can conjure up so many more emotions than a more complex one, and it's not because I minimize one and magnify the other, it's just that Marcel the Shell with Shoes On summons so much with a humble and ordinary premise that its impact is astonishingly effective. I loved it.
