AJ Manglehorn is an aging, ordinary guy in a small town. He nurses his sick cat, squeezes out a conversation with the local bank teller every Friday, and eats at the same place every day. But there is more to Manglehorn than meets the eye: he's an ex-con who, 40 years ago, gave up the woman of his dreams for a big 'job'. After a dramatic effort to start over, Manglehorn faces a terrifying moment and is unmasked as a guy with a very, very dark past.

There is a soulfulness to Pacino's performance, but this is a downbeat and dispiriting drama about broken families.

Al Pacino's 'Cast Away' Moment As He Is The Lead In A Film Where The Majority Of Time Is Spent In His Own Thoughts, Talking To Himself Or A Cat. Without Him Cast In This Lead Role It Most Probably Would Of Become A Failed Project. Many Of The Small Roles That Do Engage With Him Are Not Well Developed, It Is Confusing At Times & The Moods-Themes Chops & Changes So Much It Becomes A Rabble Of Ideas. Some Of It Is Tragic, Some Bits Hit A Good Mark, Whilst Other Bits Are Just Stupid. I Still Found It All Okayish But Mostly Because The Music Added Some Unusual Tones. I Would Not Recommend This As A 'Comedy' Tho As Some Have...It Doesn't Even Manage Dark Comedy. It Is More Of A Tragic Requiem.

At least we get Pacino and Hunter. We may not understand why this story appealed to them, except for the fact that it gave them a chance to work together.
