TIM ROTH! Never have I hated a protagonist in such a long time! The scene when Trevor explains why he is who he is is amazing!

Interesting little movie. It stars Tim Roth as Trevor who is a teenage skinhead sent to an assessment center after putting a brick through a minority store-owner's window. It is a short movie and kind of just shows a quick snapshot of a troubled yet intelligent youth's life. Tim Roth is amazing. His character Trevor comes off extremely condescending and obnoxious. I don't think the movie is really trying to make you root for him or anything. It is really just trying to show that people like this exist. It is sort of showing a reflection of the worst of society. I think it is also showing the failures of society through governments and misunderstood social issues.

Following on from watching Shane Meadows' This Is England I took at look at Tim Roth's frustrated and overtly angry performance from a film made in the era Meadows' film refers to. Two films that approach similar subjects differently. Whereas Meadows' film veers towards a 'slice-of-life' approach there's more a discussion of the system and its failings which gives this a bit more depth even if the support acting was a bit Grange Hill.

This movie interested me but unfortunately there was no point to it. Whats the point? If you fuck around all day you'll ruin your life? Thats kind of obvious! Sure it doesn't get all preachy like American History X and that can be considered as a good thing, but the story still doesn't go anywhere. Thats the major problem with this movie. I was waiting for the climax which just never came.
