Lust for a Vampire (1971)

In 1830, the Karnstein heirs use the blood of an innocent to bring forth the evil that is the beautiful Mircalla - or as she was in 1710, Carmilla. The nearby Finishing School offers rich pickings not only in in the blood of nubile young ladies but also with the headmaster who is desperate to become Mircalla's disciple, and the equally besotted and even more foolish author Richard Lestrange.

An enjoyable vampire classic from Hammer Horror.

I SAW THIS MOVIE ON TV WHEN I WAS LIKE 7 OR 8 AND FELL IN LOVE WITH IT, I THINK YUTTE STENSGAARD IS PROBABLY ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL VAMPIRES IN FILM, IF NOT THE MOST. THE MOVIE WAS EDITED WHEN I SAW IT, SO I DON'T CARE MUCH FOR THE NUDITY, BUT I STILL ENJOY IT, EVEN THOUGH SILLY, IT IS KINDA CREEPY ESPECIALLY THE BEGINNING.

Second, and weakest in Hammer's Karnstein trilogy. Story picks up 40 years after The Vampire Lovers but this time CArmilla is played by Yuette Stensgard who while really stunning is nowhere near as good in the role as Pitt. This is partly not her fault as the character in this is nowhere near as strong, indeed she spends most of the time moping around after her teacher. This comes in for a lot of flack but i still quite like it, it certainly has its more exploitative moments than earlier Hammer and the song is maybe misjudged during the love scene but at least they are trying something a bit different. And it can be unintentionally funny at times, and the cut rate Christopher Lee is amusing and the end a bit weak, but oddly despite this I still quite liked it!

Average vampire movie based on Camilla by Sheridan le Fanu.

Russell G 08 Dec 2008

Camilla or whatever her name is gets resurrected in a cool opening. Then the rest of the picture is a paint by numbers affair with the horned out lead figuring shit out. This one even has the mob of angry villagers in it, so that's about all you need to know.
