A crazy eastern European movie. It is a tad long and I probably could have done without the umpteenth animated meat sequence. There was a few interesting scenes and passages of dialogue but it's not a greatly enjoyable film.

weird .. very weird .. but actually enjoyable .Svankmajer claimed that he did a horror film .. did he ? . i guess this film doesn't belong to the category of horror movies at all . the scene of the black mass is really so devilish that a believing religious christian might get a shiver of fear ! good work anyhow !

For all its visual surprises and visceral shocks, Lunacy is still the kind of film that is easier to admire than it is to actually like.

Probably Svankmajer's best film and in many ways a summary of thinking about the failure of the Enlightenment to produce psychic and political liberation.

loved the theme, the vision, and the creative blending re-interpretation of the stories, but this is his most conventional movie with very little claymation and animation. He uses it as transitions and substory, instead of blending it into the main plot like he did in his previous movies.
