The true story of the rise to power and brutal assassination of the formerly vilified and later redeemed leader of the independent Congo, Patrice Lumumba. Using newly discovered historical evidence, Haitian-born and later Congo-raised writer and director Raoul Peck renders an emotional and tautly woven account of the mail clerk and beer salesman with a flair for oratory and an uncompromising belief in the capacity of his homeland to build a prosperous nation independent of its former Belgian overlords. Bites off way more than it can chew, it is often artlessly made, and it assumes that we know more than most of us do about the Congolese Nationalist Movement.

Very similar to JFK in the sense that Lumumba that he really was the prime minister. That is to say that he was the person who truly ran government. However, he wasn't smart enough to back down and appease the whites controlling the Belgian Congo and was killed by assassins with machetes. A truly powerful movie!

Lumumba was a good even great man (much better/greater than Obama, who recently condescendingly lectured Africa to do better, to stop being so corrupt--corrupted by whom?). And the Congo could have been a great country if not for (yes, that's right Obama) Western imperialism/capitalism.
