Meticulously directed by McCarey and splendidly acted by Boyer and Irene Dunne, this is the first and best screen version of the romantic drama that McCarey himself remade in 1957 and Warren Beatty in 1994.

As a classic black and white 'weepy' type film, this is quite good. Its a bit cheesy but it has some nice dialogue and decent performances and its quite watchable. It may not be entirely what you expect but I would suggest tissues aren't a bad idea if your particularly prone to crying when watching films. I'd recommend this film, yes.

I would have given this movie 5 stars. The problem is that I don't like Boyer. Had Cary Grant been in this version instead of in "An Affair To Remember", this pic would have been perfect. Kerr is fine in the role, but Dunne gives the character more strength --- she doesn't make you want to weep uncontrollably like Kerr does. Can we superimpose Grant's face on Boyer? And maybe a voiceover (I can't understand half of what Boyer says, anyway!)

I thought "An Affair to Remember" was good. But this is great! It's so appalling that Irene Dunne never got an Oscar in her lifetime.

one of the great love stories on film. the writing is very good and the performances are both good with Irene Dunne, beautiful as she is giving just a remarkable one. Definitely one to watch with a new flame... :)
