Lost River is a beautifully dressed minor effort, a movie in which all the muscle in the world can't transform the thin, thin script into something more.

weird and wonderful, ambitious, greatly acted, with a modern fairy-tale like story. I don't know how anyone can hate this film. Critics give positive reviews to all these terrible Marvel and Fast and Furious movies, but sh*t on somethingweird and wonderful, ambitious, greatly acted, with a modern fairy-tale like story. I don't know how anyone can hate this film.

A fairly uneven bag of tricks, but for a first attempt, Gosling shows he has a real eye and could go on to great storytelling. Some gorgeous visuals, score and symbolism. It's just not mixed together perfectly, like many other first attempts it seems he was just trying to hard to pay homage to too many different sources at once.

Itï¿ 1/2 1/2(TM)s just really good. Reminds me of some of those latino horror mashups from the 90s. Certainly affecting and quite credible in a way - through a magical realist prism. Stuff the haters - Gosling can act like few others and is brave enough to go out on a limb as a director too. Bravo dude. People will come around to this as an excellent contribution to movies.

It doesn't exactly make too much sense at times in a storytelling sense, but there are moments where Gosling has certainly learned visually from past directors he has worked, mainly Refn, and those are the best moments.
