Lonesome Jim (2005)

After failing to find success as a writer in New York City, Jim slinks back to his family's home in the Midwest to lick his wounds. I actually really enjoyed this story and film. Casey Affleck did a great job and Liv Tyler was decent. But the story of a man feeling like he is at his end and comes to a small nice realization at the end. Not bad. It is very low key and enjoyable. It is a small story that I think we can all relate to.

Steve Buscemi does an amazing job directing this dark comedy. The subtle irony is beatufully framed by quiet, depressed tone. The ending, however, fails to fill in the nihilistic void in your gut that you get from watching the rest of the movie, so you walk away closer to tears of sadness than tears of laughter

This movie is a lot like life - completely uncomfortable in most parts but in the times that it's touching and moving, there's no place else you'd rather be.
