An unusual early film from Melville, it's very contemplative and conversation-based. I found it interesting and moving.

Where most of Melvilles's work is almost silent gangster film noir, this film is about Religion, faith and love between an atheist woman and a priest, set in wartime occupied France. Also this movie is dialogue heavy and about religion.
