Be a fly on the wall as an ageing artist studies, draws, paints his life model Emmanuelle BÃ (C)art. Interesting to see the technique and the dedication.

ummm..love-hate relationship..too long...there are a lot of good scenes. I also like that the decision of showing the whole artistic process [drinking wine was there too of course ;)]...If you have a bottle of wine next to you, while watching it, you'll either fall asleep or have the funniest time of your life =)

Nothing much actually happens in this film. Little plot or even story. But it is a sensual ride, as all great French flicks are. 'Pour-quoi?'. Parce ce c'est Fantastique

Jacques Rivette's four-hour long LA BELLE NOISEUSE has been compared (rather rightfully so) to watching paint dry. Well, I guess I enjoy watching paint dry! Much of the film consists of long, stationary shots of the artist at work. The film tells the story of an aging artist who hasn't worked for ten years. When young Marianne (the always beautiful Emmanuelle Beart) comes to model for him, though, the creative juices being flowing, and he sets upon completing his should-be masterpiece, "La belle noiseuse." The two-hour version, DIVERTIMENTO was comprised of alternate takes, and it feels more like a typical foreign flick. In fact, DIVERTIMENTO feels a lot longer than its more spaciously paced counterpart. LA BELLE NOISEUSE is a rare, exceptional masterpiece of a motion picture.

it can hypnotize you until you forget its 4 hour movie. this is very fine movie
