I'm knocking this up to a 4 for those who really like old sci-fi films. This is a flashy special effects movie from the 1950s, that can still get to you - at least just a little. It is about a big machine from outer space trying to take over the world. Don't expect complicated sub-plots.

The special effects shots are ingenious, the stock footage is plentiful and Jeff Morrow's preposterously manly voice booms out over all of it. What more could you want from 50s sci-fi? Answer: nothing.

It's no coincidence that the plot of this is somewhat similar to the original Godzilla, it came out the following year after the Raymond Burr Godzilla hit the states. It's different, of course, but still a giant nuclear scare monster flick. If you like classic 50s low budget Sci-Fi, this will satisfy that need. It takes a little too long for the action to kick in, and due to the low budget, don't expect much in the way of special effects. Still, they did the best with what they had and it turned out to be a fun little movie.

Interesting concept but poorly exectued...slow pacing, some awful sound effects and not much dramatic tension....acting is sub-par with a predictable ending.

Old, yes. Dated, ceartainly. But this movie makes up for it in originality. A giant machine sent to rob the Earth of its energy? For 1957, that's pretty good. It warned of resource depletion before anyone even thought about it. An epic must see for die-hard B-movie fans.
