Attack of the Crab Monsters (1957)

A group of scientists travel to a remote island to study the effects of nuclear weapons tests, only to get stranded when their airplane mysteriously explodes. The team soon discovers that the tests have given rise to crabs mutated into intelligent, impervious, telepathic giants intent on increasing their numbers by breeding, then travelling to populated areas to feed, and which do not intend to be stopped by their discoverers.

This is perhaps Roger Corman's most clever and unique film, but it is, like all his other work, plagued by budget problems. The monsters are the best looking ones Corman's ever had, but that's not saying much. The story is intriguing and has a lot of potential but the ending is too abrupt. If this were re-made it could expand on the good start this film had. Corman did very well with what he had.

A really entertaining piece of giant animal sci-fi horror from schlockmaster Roger Corman that concerns a group of scientists exploring the effects of radiation on an island only to discover a gigantic species of crabs has evolved. Cheesy, hilarious, and absolutely awesome, Attack of the Crab Monsters is a classic piece of late 50s sci-fi.

"Took his head off! His head?" A team of military scientists investigate a nuclear decimated pacific island where giant, talking crabs run amuck and plot their reign over humankind. Typical B-Movie fun, Attack of the Crab Monsters is entertaining but doesn't go above and beyond like Roger Corman classics like Bucket of Blood, The Intruder, or any of the Edgar Allen Poe spookers. VF.
