Kotch (1971)

When retired salesman Joseph Kotcher begins to feel pressure to move out of the house he shares with the family of his son, he opts to embark on a road trip instead of settling in a retirement home. Befriending Erica, a young pregnant woman and his grandson's former nanny, Kotch begins to finds new meaning in life as he helps her prepare to welcome her baby into the world.

Didn't pass my 10 minute rule, even though I think I gave it a bit longer. The problem is that they were trying too hard. Also trying to be funny/cute and depressing at the same time. That sometimes works, but it wasn't working in the movie. The chemistry was just off.

First saw it 30 years ago and it captivated then,still have a copy on 16mm and showed my kids it the other day..

Sweet movie about perspective and independence. Matthau is a retiree living w/ his son's family, ends up identifying with a teenager just getting her life together. The family values may be a bit dated, but I don't want to ruin the story. It's a sweet movie.

Never knew Jack Lemmon directed a film, makes sense that he would have Walter in it. This film was a delightful surprise, the 70s really did have some of the best films of any era in my opinion. It's sad this film is so incredibly hard to find that the only way I can see it is if I am lucky enough to get it at the library. I m probably the only one who takes it out. This has to be outside of Dennis The Menace and the 2 Grumpy Old Men movies, this is my favourite of Walter Mathau's movies.
