good story line about racial intermarriage...

The wartime material is fairly standard (if well-executed), but the simmering theme of racism is honestly handled, and Sinatra is excellent.

Two GI's fighting on the French Riviera during the second world war compete for the love of a beautiful girl with a dark secret; her father was black. From the era in which Hollywood started dealing with such big and delicate issues, this film deals with the race subject, but rather than being a powerful showing of the theme and a stand out work, it feels like a soap opera trailing behind other films of the same kind and the same period. Enjoyable, but in spite of its famed case it's also forgettable.
