Growing up in a rural town filled with violent delinquents, Jack has learned to do what it takes to survive, despite having an oblivious mother and no father. Although he’s working with familiar tropes, writer-director Felix Thompson, in his feature debut, wisely keeps clear of big, dramatic moments, maintaining instead a palpable naturalism through dialogue that has an unmannered, improvised feel and acting that follows suit.

King Jack is a coming of age story that eloquently explores themes of selfishness and the consequences of bullying. The masterful direction and great acting elevates this movie from being another average teen movie. Granted, there are a few clichÃ©s and some one note characters but once again, the great direction from Felix Thompson help overlook those. With a tight 80 minute runtime this movie doesn't have any wasted scenes. I highly recommend this movie
