Kelly + Victor (2012)

When Kelly meets Victor on the dance floor of a Liverpool nightclub, the attraction is instant. After wandering through the night they find themselves at her flat, making love with a passion and urgency that neither had experienced before. Both Kelly and Victor are struggling to get by as best they can, while the people around them are choosing illegal lifestyles; she is escaping a brutish former lover, while he is being dragged into a world of drugs. It's when they make love that their darker instincts take over.

James Mottram 25 Sep 2013

Evans has a feel for mood, but it'd be wrong to mistake atmosphere for psychological depth; Kelly + Victor could've been so much more than what it ultimately achieves.

Jessica T 28 May 2014

Its well shot and well acted, but Evans adaptation of the novel is ultimately a bit lacking.

Shaun Munro 13 Oct 2012

The raw, sweet promise of the first act is ultimately up-ended by its turn towards grimness, but Kelly + Victor is a melancholic meditation on the most disturbing type of romantic irony.

Peter Bradshaw 18 Sep 2013

There's something very unsentimental and provocative being served up along with the romance in this love story from writer-director Kieran Evans.

Mark Kermode 22 Sep 2013

Antonia Campbell-Hughes and Julian Morris are impressively raw and unguarded as the doomed lovers, their nerves exposed for all to see as the roots of their angst are increasingly laid bare.
